The old railway training college was built with imported bricks by Scottish masons in 1900. Now declared a national monument, it has undergone a metamorphosis and emerged as the main building of a prestigious four-star hotel.
During its restoration, the bricks in a certain section were painstakingly removed one by one, cleaned and reset. Bushman Sands Hotel comprises individual buildings around a pool area and overlooking the Bushman Sands Golf Course.
Original houses form the cornerstones of what are now three rows of four-star terraced accomodation, linked to the main hotel building by raked gravel walkways lit by Victorian lampposts.
The decor throughout references the legacy of the Khoi San and Alicedale's railway history. Situated on nearly 4000 hectares of former farmland, Bushman Sands game reserve offers Malaria free sightings of the Big Five game.
Working with Shamwari's conservation team, Bushman Sands have reintroduced indigenous animals to the reserve, restoring the environment to its natural state. Animals that once roamed freely over 200 years ago have been reintegrated into their natural habitat.
Among Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino, other species present include Cheetah, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Hippo, Kudu, Eland, Springbok and Waterbuck.
Bushman Sands Hotel has been set-up to provide job opportunities to the community of Alicedale and to give you the holiday of a lifetime.
